UNIDO
Sustainable Industrialization & Workers Rights
Committee Description
Economic development and wealth is at the heart of our societies today, and in a world where industrialization serves as the central theme, we witness the profound transformation of societies and economies, transitioning from agrarian or pre-industrial phases to highly mechanised and technologically-driven ones. Many of these evolutions, however, are done in ways that raise questions to the UNIDO about sustainability and the protection of workers and citizens. Whether it be the human and environmental impact of fast fashion, the biodiversity concerns of monoculture agriculture or the unplanned urbanisation of rural areas, these examples underscore the need for regulations that ensure sustainable practices. This year’s committee on the UNIDO will examine and tackle a variety of challenges surrounding sustainable industrialization, where delegates will work together to regulate it in a way that will balance economic growth with environmental preservation and social equity.
